ST. PAUL – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team had five All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) first team selections, including co-Player of the Year #Toby Peter# (
Jr.-Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach); it was announced today by UMAC Sports Information Director Greg Johnson.
Peter, who was the UMAC Player of the Year in 2007, shares the honor this season with Patrick O'Connor of the University of Minnesota-Morris. Peter led the Saints with 16 assists and 28 points. The 16 assists broke a program record for most assists in a season. According to the latest NCAA Division III rankings, Peter ranks eighth in assists per game. He is a first team selection for the third straight year and was named the UMAC Tournament MVP.
Joining Peter on the first team was #Greg Doornink# (
Jr.-Cottage Grove, Minn./Park), #Ian Linder# (
Jr.-Cotton, Minn./Duluth East), #Sam Reed# (
So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway), and #Brandon Stemwedel# (
So.-Grand Rapids, Minn.).
Doornink earns first team honors for the first time in his career after being an honorable mention selection last season. He started all 22 matches for the Saints at the midfielder position.
Linder earns first team accolades for the third year in a row. Linder helped lead a defense that was second in the conference in goals allowed and shutouts. The Saints are ranked 27th in Division III in team goals-against-average.
Reed is named to the first team for the second consecutive year. He led the UMAC with 10 shutouts and was third in goals-against-average (0.65) and save percentage (.819). The 0.65 GAA is a CSS record for lowest GAA in a season.
Stemwedel earns first team honors for the first time in his career. Stemwedel had four goals and four assists this season for the Saints.
Earning honorable mention accolades were juniors #Jermaine Dacres# (
Jr.-Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) and #Dustin James# (
Jr.-Superior, Wis.).
Dacres is an honorable mention choice for the second straight year. He was second on the team with 20 points on six goals and eight assists. Dacres is ranked 40th in the country in assists per game.
James is named honorable mention for a second time. He was an honorable mention choice in 2007 and a first team selection last season. James had three goals and six assists this season in 22 matches.
Josh Dunwoody of Crown College was named the UMAC Coach of the Year.
