INDIANAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica women’s soccer team has been selected to its third consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament as the field was announced Sunday evening.
The Saints will face Macalester College in the first round on Saturday at Macalester Stadium. The other teams playing at Macalester will be Concordia-Moorhead against Dubuque. The Saints lost at Macalester in the second game of the season 3-0. The time of the contest will be determined later today.
The Saints are one of 63 teams in the field and one of two pool B schools that were selected. Pool B schools are those that come from conferences that don’t have automatic qualifiers.
In its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007, the Saints defeated Carroll University (Wis.) in the first round before falling to eventual National Champion, Wheaton College (Ill.) in the second round. Last year, the Saints fell to Carleton College in the first round.
The CSS men’s soccer team was not selected for the men’s national tournament. Next year, the winner of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Postseason Tournament will get an automatic-bid into the tournament. If that was the case this year, the Saints’ men’s team, along with the volleyball team would join the women’s soccer team in the national tournament.
