DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men’s tennis team won its seventh consecutive match with a 9-0 triumph over Northwestern College this evening at the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints improve to 11-8 overall and 8-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The Eagles fall to 4-10 overall and 4-2 in the UMAC. The Saints have won 73 straight conference duals.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Brendan Anderson (
So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and
Tucker Combs (
So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) got past their opponents 8-4 for their fourth straight victory. The No. 2 team of
Jacob Engelstad (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and
Kevin Hilpert (
Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) won 8-2. That was the same score at No. 3 doubles as
Tim Dean (
Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) and
Cody Bottem (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) improved to 9-0 on the year.
In singles,
Dillon Sterle (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) was the last match to finish for the night as he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2, Jacob Engelstad did not have any problems with a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Brendan Anderson topped his opponent at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-3. Kevin Hilpert gave up just one game in each set at the No. 4 spot to win 6-1, 6-1. Tim Dean prevailed at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2 and
Brian Lindberg (
Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) took care of business at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-1. All six singles competitors for the Saints have won at least four straight matches.
The Saints will be in Northfield, Minn. on Friday night to face Luther College (Iowa) in a non-conference match. That match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
