ABERDEEN, S.D. – For the sixth time in program history, the St. Scholastica softball team went through the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) unscathed by defeating Presentation College 22-0 and the University of Minnesota-Morris 10-0, both in five innings today on the final day of the UMAC Crossover.
The Saints improve to 27-11 overall and finish 21-0 in the conference. The 21 league wins are the most in program history and the 27 overall wins are the most since 2006 when they had 37 victories.
CSS scored nine runs in the first inning and seven runs in the fourth inning in a 22-0 victory over Presentation College in the first game of the day.
Theresa Tauer (
Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three runs scored.
Mary Jo McNamee (
Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and
Betsy Wehseler (
So.-Ironton, Minn./Crosby-Ironton) was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Kayla Jenkins (
So.-Esko, Minn.) pitched three innings, struck out six, and allowed just one hit to earn the win.
Jenn Shaw (
So.-Northfield, Minn.) pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
In the second game of the day, the Saints scored in the first three innings, including five in the first on their way to a 10-0 victory. Jenn Falk (
So.-Altona, Man.) allowed just one hit and struck out four in five innings to earn the shutout victory. Falk has not allowed a run 29.2 consecutive innings.
Brynn Wollak (
Fr.-Hugo, Minn./Stillwater) was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the second. Theresa Tauer and
Kristin Swartz (
Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Saints will play their final doubleheader of the regular season on Monday against Gustavus Adolphus at the University of Minnesota at 5 p.m.
