UMAC All-Conference Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second time in as many years, St. Scholastica junior
Dillon Sterle (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year; it was announced today UMAC Sports Information Director Greg Johnson. Head Coach Wells Patten was also named coach of the year.
Joining Sterle on the all-conference team was
Brendan Anderson (
So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata),
Tim Dean (
Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.),
Jacob Engelstad (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln),
Kevin Hilpert (
Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.), and
Brian Lindberg (
Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.).
Sterle went 11-10 this season and 8-0 in UMAC action. Last Saturday he won the No.1 singles flight at the UMAC Tournament for the second straight year. Also, he teamed up with Jacob Engelstad to win the No. 2 doubles flight at the tournament. This is the third straight year Sterle has been named to the UMAC all-conference team.
Engelstad went on to win the No. 2 singles flight at the UMAC Tournament. Engelstad went 14-6 this season and was 7-0 conference action.
Brendan Anderson earns all-conference honors for the first time after he went 6-0 in conference singles matches and 7-0 in doubles matches this season. Anderson won the No. 3 flight singles title at the UMAC Tournament.
Tim Dean went 7-0 in both singles and doubles action in UMAC action this season. Dean won the No. 5 flight singles title and teamed up with
Cody Bottem (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) to win the No. 3 doubles flight.
Kevin Hilpert went 7-0 in league play and won the No. 4 singles flight on Saturday, while Brian Lindberg went 6-0 and won the No. 6 singles championship.
Wells Patten wins UMAC Coach of the Year for a eighth time and the fifth time in the last six years. Patten guided the Saints to their 13th consecutive UMAC regular season championship and their 10th conference tournament title in program history.
