MORIARTY SIGNS WITH THE ST. PAUL SAINTS

DULUTH, Minn. – Former St. Scholastica pitcher Mark Moriarty has been signed by the St. Paul Saints of the American Association Independent League; it was announced today.

Moriarty is the 13th CSS baseball player to sign a professional contract. The last Saint to sign was Keith Ritsche in 2007 when he signed with Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.

Moriarty, a right-hander, played for the Saints from 2004-07. He holds the program record with 52 career appearances and 16 strikeouts in a game. He is second all-time in CSS baseball history with 257 career strikeouts, one behind the leader Corey Kemp. He is tied for fourth with 23 career victories.

He was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Pitcher of the Year in 2006 and was also a NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region first team selection in 2006. He was a first team All-UMAC choice in 2006 and 2007.

St. Paul is in the middle of a five-game homestand and will begin a three-game series against the Shreveport-Bossier Captains tonight. The first pitch is 7:05 p.m. Tuesday's and Wednesday's game will also begin at 7:05 p.m.
