Claugherty was fourth in the nation last year in walks

D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Teams

DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica senior first baseman #Sean Claugherty# (Sr. Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) has been named an honorable mention preseason All-American by D3baseball.com, it was announced on Monday.

Claugherty was a preseason first team All-American, according to D3baseball.com and Baseball America last year. He was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Postseason All-American second team in his sophomore year.

Last season, Claugherty played in all 42 games and batted .393 with three home runs and 38 RBIs. He led the team with 53 hits, even though he was walked a team-high 44 times. The 44 walks were the fourth-most in NCAA Division III last year. He was also 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.

Claugherty and the Saints open their season on Tuesday, March 2nd in the Metrodome on Mall of America Field when they face Hamline University for a doubleheader. The action is scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m.
