Duluth, Minn. – The Saints of St. Scholastica have won three of four and continue UMAC competition as the Martin Luther Knights come into town on Friday night and the Bethany Lutheran Vikings come on Saturday Night. Game time against the Knights is approximately 7:30 p.m. after the Women’s game and is 5 p.m. Saturday night against the Vikings.

Last Action: CSS got double figure scoring from three different players -- including Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn.) with 17 points to lead the Saints for the fourth straight game – but not could not pull off a victory as Northland won 67-64. The Vikings beat the Knights in both teams last game 76-65. Bethany was led by Tommy Saffert who was 6-12 from beyond the arc and had 31 points for a game high. Ryan Kolander led the Knights with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

St. Scholastica Saints Notes: The Saints have won three of their last four with Danny Schmitz averaging 23.2 points in those four games. Anderson has put together two of his career-highs for scoring in the last few games, putting up 32 (career high) against Presentation on January 8th and 28 against Finlandia on the 12th… Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn.), is averaging 6.5 boards per game over the last four games to lead the team and had a career-high 11 vs. Northland on Saturday… Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn.) is shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc and is shooting 43 percent over the last three games… Brett Tester (Andover, Minn.) is leading the team in rebounds for the year and is averaging 4.4 over the last five games… The Saints are averaging 64 points per game on the year.

Bethany Lutheran Vikings Notes: Tommy Saffert is averaging 21.3 points per game over the last three contests, including a game high 31 points in the last match-up against Bethany Lutheran en route to be named UMAC player of the week. Saffert is shooting 44 percent over the last three games to lead the team… Stephone Frederick is averaging 7.6 rebounds over the last three games, including a season-high 10 last game at Martin Luther…The Vikings have three players averaging double figures in points…Bethany is averaging 60.9 points per game.

Martin Luther Knights Notes: Greg Holzheuter is averaging 16.3 points per game to lead the Knights in scoring, which ranks him tops in the UMAC for scoring…Ryan Kolander has had two double-doubles in the past two games, averaging 14.5 points per game and 11.5 boards in those two contests. Kolander has been on a hot streak of late as he is averaging 13.8 points and eight rebounds over the last five games…The Knights are averaging 68.9 points per game.

Last Meetings: The Saints beat Bethany Lutheran in the final game last year to win the postseason UMAC championship. The final score was 66-61. The Saints went on a 14-0 run in the last two minutes and were led by tournament MVP Chris Hamers who scored 158 points in the last 5:26.

The Saints beat the Knights 91-81 in the final game of the regular season last year. The Saints were lead by Danny Schmitz who put up 30 points. Schmitz was 7-8 on three-point attempts and 9-9 at the charity stripe. The win gave the Saints the number one seed in the UMAC postseason tournament.
