HAUKOM TOPS 1,000 AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT MORRIS
Haukom becomes 11th player to score over 1,000 career points

MORRIS, Minn. – Senior guard Kirsten Haukom (Sr.-Marshall, Minn.) became the 11th St. Scholastica women’s basketball player to top 1,000 career points tonight in a 58-51 loss at the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Haukom’s finished tonight’s game with 12 points to give her 1,002 for her career. She has averaged over 11 points per game, three of her four seasons. If she can get 24 more rebounds, she will become the first CSS women’s player to score over 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds, and have over 200 assists.

The Saints struggled out of the gate tonight as it did not make a field goal in the first seven minutes and fell behind 16-2. CSS ended up trailing 27-10 at halftime. The 10 points scored set a program record for fewest points scored in a half.

The Saints shot 21-percent in the half, while the Cougars shot 43-percent. CSS also committed 16 turnovers, while Morris owned the paint, outscoring the Saints 18-4.

The Cougar lead got as high as 23 points with 14 minutes to go, but the Saints did not fold. CSS went on an 8-0 run with 10 minutes to go and got the lead down to nine with 2:37 left. However, Morris would hang on for the 58-51 victory.

The Saints outscored Morris 41-31 in the second half and shot 65-percent in the half. The Cougars made just 29-percent of their shots in the second half, but made 17 free throws. CSS had a 30-24 edge on the glass, but finished with 28 turnovers.

Katie Christensen (Sr.-Elk River, Minn.) led the Saints with 13 points. Haukom finished with 12 points and Laura Amys (So.-South Range, Wis./Superior) nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Steph Roggenbuck led all-scorers with 18 points for the Cougars.

The Saints fall to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Cougars improve to 13-6 overall and 8-1 in the league. The Saints are in a four-way tie for fourth-place in the league.

The Saints will be at Presentation College tomorrow afternoon. The tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
