CSS TEAMS GEAR UP FOR SPRING TRIPS

DULUTH, Minn. – The men's and women's tennis teams, women's softball, baseball, and a handful of men's and women's track and field athletes are heading south for their spring break trips next week. Both tennis teams and baseball are heading to Florida. Softball is heading to Arizona, and track and field is heading to South Carolina.

Men's and Women's Tennis: Head coach Wells Patten will be taking both his squads to Orlando, Florida this spring break to compete in outdoor conditions. Both teams will have five matches over a five-day span. The teams share opponent Saint Ambrose University (Iowa), Augustana (S.D.), University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Franklin & Marshall College. For the final match-up the women will play SUNY-Geneseo and the men will face-off against Springfield College.

Both teams will go up against Saint Ambrose and Augustana on Monday. The Saints will be up early the next morning as they both face-off against UW-La Crosse. Both teams have Wednesday off for rest. Action resumes for the women on Thursday as they compete against SUNY-Geneseo. The men play later in the day against Springfield. Both teams conclude their play on Friday as they go up against Franklin & Marshall College.

Baseball:
First-year head coach Corey Kemp, will take his Saints down to Florida for spring training baseball. The Saints will play in three different cities: Fort Pierce, Cocoa Beach, and Vero Beach. They will play 10 games over a seven-day period. Opponents for the Saints are as follows: Manhattanville College (DH), College of Mount Saint Vincent (DH), Centenary College (New Jersey), Rutgers Camden, Stockton College (DH), University of Wisconsin-Superior, and Central College.

The first six games will be played in Fort Pierce. The Saints open up with five games in three days beginning with a doubleheader on Sunday against Manhattanville College. The next morning they will go against College of Mount Saint Vincent for another doubleheader. The Saints conclude the three day stretch against Centenary College on Tuesday. The Saints are off on Wednesday and finish up the trip with five games in three days. The Saints start up play again on Thursday as they face-off against Rutgers-Camden. That game concludes the six games being played in Fort Pierce. The Saints then play one game in Cocoa Beach against Stockton College at on Friday, before concluding their trip with two games in Vero Beach.

The Saints play their final two games on Saturday, which will be the most important day of the trip. The Saints will participate in the Border Battle against UW-Superior even though they will be over 1,700 miles away. The Saints will play their final game in Florida against Central College right after the Superior game. You can listen to the Fort Pierce games on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC.

Softball: Head coach Jen Walter and her Saints will play 10 games over a five-day period as they head to Tucson, Arizona. The Saints open up play against Southwestern University and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Monday. The Saints will play UW-La Crosse again on Tuesday in a doubleheader. On Wednesday CSS will compete against Lakeland College and Augsburg College. With two days and four games left the women play Dickinson College and Schreiner University on Thursday. The Saints conclude play on Friday as they play Otterbein College and North Central College.

Track and Field:
Head coach Kirk Nauman and nine track and field athletes will be heading to South Carolina to compete in the Shamrock Invitational top open the outdoor season. The meet starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday.

#Wendell Booth# (So.-Deer River, Minn.) will be competing in long jump. The women's 4x400 team consisting of #Nikki Hughes# (So.-South Range, Wis.), #Samantha Johnson# (So.-Duluth, Minn.), #Stacey Peterson# (Sr.-Gilbert, Minn.) and #Jennifer Plaetz# (So.-Lucan, Minn.) will be competing in the final event of the meet.

Throwers #Tom Lyscio# (So.-Baxter, Minn.), #Josh Ditsworth# (Jr.-North Branch, Minn.) and #Alec Seeley# (So.-Cadott, Wis.) headline the field events. The trio will also be participating in the shot put.

#Jackie Thelen# (Fr.-Randall, Minn.) will be competing in her first ever Heptathlon. Thelen finished 147 points shy of provisionally qualifying for the Indoor National Meet in just her first ever Pentathlon. After her completion of the Heptathlon she will hold the school record as the first ever Saint to compete in that event.
