DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica head football coach Greg Carlson announced today that the football team will play a Canadian All-Star Team on May 23rd in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the 30,000-seat Blue Bomber Stadium. The game will kickoff at 3 p.m.

Blue Bomber Stadium is where the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers play. It hosted the 2006 Grey Cup, CFL's version of the Super Bowl.

There are added benefits for the Saints to play a game against a foreign team during the spring. Spring football practice is non-contact, no pads at the NCAA Division III level. However, if a team is taking a foreign tour they are allowed to prepare for the game with padded practices.

The Saints will start spring practice on May 2nd and will begin two-a-day full pad practices on May 14th. CSS will hold its first-ever intra-squad spring game on Tuesday, May 18th at Saints Field, starting at 4 p.m.

“This will be a great experience for us,” said head coach Greg Carlson. “Practicing in full pads and playing a regular game in the spring will definitely help us for the fall season.”

As part of the trip, the Saints will also be running a free youth football clinic in Winnipeg. Coach Carlson said the whole team will be coming on the trip. The game will be played with Canadian Rules, which differ slightly from the American version.

The Saints will open its 2010 season at home on Saturday, September 4th against Lawrence University (Wis.).
