All-UMAC Release
ST. PAUL – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team had six players selected to the All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) team, including #Katie Motley# (
Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert), who was named the UMAC Player of the Year; it was announced today.
Motley is named conference player of the year for the first time and is an all-conference selection for the fourth time in her career. At this past weekend's UMAC Tournament, she captured her fourth conference singles and doubles titles by winning at the No. 1 singles flight and the No. 2 doubles flight. Motley is the winningest tennis player in St. Scholastica history with 125 combined singles and doubles victories. She also owns the program record with 68 doubles wins.
Joining Motley on the all-conference team are #Kelly Ross# (
Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.), #Angela Shields# (
Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway), #Megan Carlson# (
Sr.-Pine City, Minn.), #Callee Conda# (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.), and #Danni Sonnenfeld# (
Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch).
Ross earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career. Ross teamed with Motley to win at No. 2 doubles and she also won the No. 4 singles title at the UMAC Tournament. Ross was 6-0 in conference singles and 7-0 in doubles matches this season.
Shields is named to the all-conference team for the second straight year. Shields won at No. 5 singles and at No. 3 doubles at the conference tournament. She went 5-0 in UMAC singles matches and 8-0 in doubles matches.
Carlson is named All-UMAC for the first time in her career. Carlson teamed with Shields to win the No. 3 doubles title this past weekend. She was 8-0 in doubles action against conference foes.
Conda is named to the all-conference team for the second consecutive season. Conda won at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles at the UMAC Tournament. She was 4-1 in UMAC singles matches and 4-0 in doubles action.
Sonnenfeld receives all-conference accolades for the first time in her career. Sonnenfeld won at No. 3 singles and teamed with Conda to win at No. 1 doubles this past weekend. Sonnenfeld was 8-0 in conference singles matches and 6-0 in doubles matches.
Head coach
Wells Patten earns UMAC Women's Coach of the Year honors. This is the ninth time he has been named both the men's and women's coach of the year.
