NFCA All-Region Teams
STARKVILLE, Miss. – St. Scholastica sophomore #Merryssa Tiedeman# (
So.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) has been named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Midwest Region First Team; it was announced today.
Senior second baseman #Kristin Swartz# (
Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) and freshman catcher #Bonnie Kowalczyk# (
Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) were named third team all-region.
Tiedeman was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference's (UMAC) Player of the Year earlier this week. Tiedeman led the conference with a .621 batting average in league games. She also had a conference-high 25 RBIs and had 20 extra-base hits in conference play.
Tiedeman broke program records with 18 doubles and with a 23-game hitting streak. She also recorded the second-most triples in a season with seven. Both the doubles and triples were the most in the UMAC. Tiedeman was also named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
Swartz is named to the third team after being a second team selection last season. Swartz was a first team All-UMAC selection for the second consecutive season. She led the conference with seven home runs. Her 15 career home runs are third-most in program history. She led the team with 36 RBIs and also had a team-high 18 walks. Swartz was named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team for the fourth straight year.
Kowalczyk earns third-team honors in just her first season with the Saints. Kowalczyk was also a first team All-UMAC Selection. Kowalczyk committed just five errors and threw out 11 base runners from behind the plate. She led the team with a .433 batting average and had a tremendous UMAC Tournament, going 8-for-12 with three RBIs, a double and a home run. Kowalczyk was also named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
This is the fifth straight year that a CSS player has been nominated to the All-Midwest Region Team. Tiedeman is the 13th first team all-region selection in program history and the first since 2007. The three selection are the most since the 2006 season.
