DULUTH, Minn. – Former University of Minnesota-Duluth forwards Libby Guzzo and Stephanie Lenz will add much-needed experience in St. Scholastica's inaugural season.
Guzzo, who will only get to play one year for the Saints, won two national titles for the Bulldogs and played in three NCAA Tournaments. She played in 117 career games for UMD, including playing in all 39 games in her first collegiate season in 2007-08. She was regarded as one of the hardest working players for the Bulldogs.
Prior to UMD, Guzzo was a star athlete at William H. Kelley High School in Silver Bay. She was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, five-year letterwinner in hockey, and six-year letterwinner in softball. She was an all-area selection in all three sports during the 2006-07 school year. She was an all-state selection in softball in 2006.
For the Silver Bay Mariners prep hockey team, Guzzo was a five-year starter and three-time all-area selection. She twice led the Mariners in scoring and was named the team's best offensive player for 2006-07.
Lenz comes over after spending just one year for the Bulldogs. In 2009-10, she played in 38 games in UMD's national championship season.
Prior to UMD, Lenz graduated from Duluth East and was a three-year starter for the Duluth Northern Stars. She was an honorable mention all-conference selection after recording 29 points her senior season. She also took part in the 2009 Section 7AA All-Star Game.
Check back next week when we spotlight a few more recruits from the inaugural CSS women's hockey team.
