DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica head women's soccer coach
Dave Reyelts has announced 10 more recruits that will attend the school in the fall and intend on playing from the CSS women's soccer team.
A forward, six midfielders, and three defenders join Cloquet's
Haley Bassett (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS), Duluth East's
Jane Goldfarb (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Kallie Thomas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), and Hawaii-native Malia Grosskeutz in the 2010 incoming class thus far.
Forward
Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) from Woodbury High School played on the 2006 and 2008 State AA Championship squads, the 2009 runner-up squad and the 2007 third-place team. The 2009 team was ranked No. 1 in the nation at one point in October. She also played for the Woodbury Inferno Club Team that was Summer Club State Cup Champions from 2004-07. In the 2008 and 2009, she played for the Woodbury Eclipse Club Team that was the Summer Club State runner-ups those two years. Carlson is currently playing from the St. Paul Blackhawks U17 Premier squad.
Midfielder
Lauren Lynch (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) from Maple Grove High School received all-conference honorable mention accolades in her senior season. The last two seasons she received the team's “MS Crimson Award” for the player who demonstrates leadership on and off the field and is a positive influence on her teammates and the overall program. She is a two-time USA Cup Tournament Champion and is currently playing for the Maplebrook U19 traveling team.
Midfielder/Defender
Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) was a two-time honorable mention selection at Bloomington Jefferson High School. Williamson was named the team's MVP her senior season and was part of the 2007 and 2008 Section runner-up squads. She plays for the Bloomington United U18 C1 squad that is coached by Sean McKuras, who is also the head women's coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
A trio of summer club teammates also intend on playing for the Saints this fall. Defender
Megan McCarthy (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) from Hill-Murray High School, defender/midfielder
Allie Meader (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) from Mahtomedi High School, and
Maggie Dolan (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) from St. Anthony Village High School all play for coach Cam O'Malley of the Twin Cities Fire Summer Club. All three were part of the 2009 Summer League Championship team.
McCarthy was part of the 2008 and 2009 Hill-Murray conference championship teams. She was the team captain her senior season and is the captain of the TC Fire this summer.
Meader was captain in just her sophomore season at Mahtomedi. She did not play her junior and senior seasons at Mahtomedi and just played year round for the TC Fire.
Dolan was a three-time all-conference selection for St. Anthony Village. She was also academic all-conference those three years and received the 2009 team Heart and Soul Award.
Another pair of teammates plan on playing together for CSS this fall. Defenders
Jess Kula and
Autumn Johnson (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis HS) from St. Francis High School were part of the 2009 team that had the best record in school history. Both defenders helped the team allow the fewest goals in a season in program history. Both were co-captains in 2008 and 2009.
Kula was an honorable mention all-conference selection in her freshman season and earned all-conference laurels the next three years. She was named Team MVP in 2007, earned the team's “Coaches Choice” award in 2008, and the hardest worker award in 2009.
Johnson was an honorable mention all-conference selection in 2008 and earned all-conference honors in 2009. Off the field, Johnson participated in “Youth Teaching Youth” and is a member of LINK, helping freshman to assimilate to high school life at St. Francis.
Midfielder
Leah Zimmerman from Robbinsdale Cooper High School was an honorable mention all-conference selection in 2008 and an academic all-conference choice from 2007-09. She was also team captain in 2008 and 2009. Zimmerman is playing for the Minnesota Thunder Academy Club Soccer Team.
Finally, midfielder
Stacy Collova (Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) from Osceola High School intends on playing for the Saints this season. Collova was an honorable mention all-conference selection in 2008 and an all-conference choice in 2009. She was team captain both of those seasons. In 2009, she was part of the conference championship squad and was named the team MVP.
Head coach
Dave Reyelts is bringing in the largest recruiting class in program history this season with more recruits to be announced in the coming weeks. The incoming class will need to step up immediately as the Saints lost 74-percent of their scoring from last season.
St. Scholastica will begin its season against 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Macalester College on September 1st at Saints Field. Be sure to keep an eye on csssaints.com throughout the summer for the latest women's soccer information.
