BAGGS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR JUNE 12TH

2nd Annual Golf Event and Benefit Dinner is Saturday, June 12th

DULUTH, Minn.—The John Baggs Memorial Golf Tournament and Benefit Dinner, which honors the memory of the former St. Scholastica baseball coach, will be held at Enger Park Golf Course on Saturday, June 12th.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the John Baggs Memorial Fund, which has been started to honor a man who excelled in leadership, teaching, and promoting strong family values, and fund scholarships for qualifying students who exemplify the ideals by which Coach Baggs lived. The first scholarship will be awarded for an incoming freshman in the fall of 2010.

“Coach Baggs excelled in leadership, teaching, and promoting strong family values,” said tournament organizer Tom Berrisford, who both played for and coached with Baggs at St. Scholastica. “We're proud to start a new tradition and carry on his legacy by starting and supporting a scholarship fund in his name.”

Following golf will be a benefit dinner in the Reif Gymnasium on the CSS campus. The dinner is open to the public, even those who don't play golf that day. Both the golf and the dinner will honor and celebrate this great man, and benefit students in our area, as well.

“John touched lives throughout our community,” Berrisford said, “not only in the baseball program, but throughout the campus, his church, and a variety of programs in which his family participated.”
