DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team got three first half goals, two of which from
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College), on its way to a 4-0 victory over Northland College Friday evening at Saints Field.
It took only three minutes for the Saints to take an early lead as Farrar scored with assists from
Brandon Stemwedel (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) and
Ace Amin (Vasteras, Sweden/Rudbeckianska Gym). CSS's second goal came from Stemwedel, who flicked it nicely over the goalkeeper and into the net. Farrar had the assist.
The Saints added another goal with three minutes left in the half as Farrar scored his second of the game and his team-high seventh of the season to make it 3-0.
The lone goal of the second half came from
Bryan Olson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS), who scored his second goal of the season and third of his career on a header off of a
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) corner to make the final score 4-0.
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) got the start for
Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) and made just one save to earn his first win of the season and his first collegiate shutout. Matt Larsen played well for the 'Jacks (1-11-0, 0-7-0 UMAC), stopping 13 shots in the loss. The Saints outshot Northland 39-4 and had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Saints (9-1-1, 6-0-1 UMAC) will be in action again on Sunday when they face a strong regional opponent in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The action will get underway at 1 p.m. on J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
