DULUTH, Minn. – Cunningham, Kehtel, and Carlson all scored multiple goals in the St. Scholastica women's soccer team's 7-0 victory over Northland College on Friday at Saints Field.
The Saints got their first goal less than 10 minutes into the contest on a
Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) goal. Cunningham would not be done as she netted her second of the game and third of the season in the 42nd minute to make the halftime score 2-0.
Kaylee Gombold (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) assisted the first goal and both
Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and
Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had assists on the second goal.
Since Cunningham was the offense in the first half,
Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would be the offense to begin the second half, scoring the natural hat trick. Kehtel's first goal came one minute, 13 seconds into the second half to extend the lead to 3-0, thanks to an assist from Cunningham.
Her second goal followed three minutes after with an assist from
Claire Lubansky (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS). It was Lubansky again feeding Kehtel who scored her third goal, to complete the natural hat trick, in the 62nd minute. Kehtel now has a team-high nine goals on the season and five goals vs. Northland in two games.
Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) scored the final two goals for the Saints in the 72nd minute and with seven seconds left to make the final tally 7-0.
Molly Bergmann (Walker, Minn./Walker-Hackensack-Akeley HS) made three saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season. It marks seven straight games CSS has not allowed a goal and 636 minutes and 17 seconds since the last goal allowed. Sarah Weed had nine saves in the loss for the LumberJills (3-8-0, 1-6-0 UMAC). CSS won the final shot count 35-3, including 21-1 in the second half.
The Saints (8-4-0, 7-0-0 UMAC) will be off until next Saturday when they host North Central University for Homecoming at Saints Field. The contest is scheduled to begin at noon at Saints Field.
