The Saints men's hockey team split the weekend series with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The win over the Blugolds (4-2-0, 2-2-0 NCHA) gives the Saints their first conference victory of the season.

The scoring for the Saints started in the first period on a power play when Austin Brown (Lathrup Village, Mich./Legacy HS (Woodstock-MJAHL) ) scored on a slap shot from the blue line to give CSS a 1-0 lead.  Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) were credited with assists on the play.

The Blugolds would tie it up early in the second period when Alex Olson scored on assists from Andrew Wilcox and Tyler Romasco to make it 1-1, a score that would take the teams into the second intermission.

The Saints were successful on another power play in the third when Garet Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS (Jersey-EJHL) ) scored on a redirection shot from Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) to make it 2-1.  Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) also got an assist on the play.

The Saints went on to overcome late pressure from Eau Claire as the Blugolds played the final minute with an empty net, and CSS went on to victory 2-1.

The story of the night was Jojo Jeanetta (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) in net for CSS.  Jeanetta made 34 saves—a few of which were spectacular—on 35 UW-Eau Claire shots to hold the Blugolds to just one goal.

Brown's goal moves him into second on the team with eight total points, while Corcoran remains on top with nine after his assist in the game.  Davis sits at seven points with his assist, Golanowski now has five and Malenstyn has three points on the season.

The Saints (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NCHA) will be off next week and return to action the day after Thanksgiving as they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. for the MCHA/NCHA Showcase taking on Marian University (5-1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Lawrence University (3-0-1) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
