GREEN BAY, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team remains alive in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) playoff race despite falling by a 2-0 final to fellow first-year program St. Norbert College on Friday night.
With the loss, CSS falls to 7-14-1 on the season with a 5-11-1 mark in the NCHA and will likely need to win tomorrow to keep pace in the NCHA O'Brien Cup Tournament hunt. St. Norbert improves to 10-9-3 (7-7-3 NCHA) with the victory.
Out-shooting the Saints 12 to nine in the first period, St. Norbert opened the scoring just before the 17-minute mark when Zoe Kurth netted her tenth of the season. Danielle Rozon and Karissa Anderson had the assists.
The Saints pulled even with both teams taking eight shots in the second, but Henreitte Ostergaard scored the Knights' second goal of the evening at 5:51 into the second. Alexa Jacobson had the lone assist.
The Saints held the Knights scoreless on 12 shots in the third, but could not convert on five shots of their own.
#Rachel Borchardt# took a hard-luck loss for the Saints, making 30 saves on 32 shots. Kaley Gibson earned a victory for the Knights, stopping all 22 CSS shots.
CSS took just two penalties on the night for four minutes, while the Knights took five for ten. CSS was scoreless on their five opportunities as was St. Norbert on two.
The two teams will do battle again tomorrow afternoon in Green Bay with the opening puck dropping at 2 p.m.
