Women’s Track & Field Breezes to UMAC Indoor Title

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's track & field team recorded 129 more points than the other three teams combined to capture its second straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse.

CSS finished with 290 points on the day. The University of Minnesota-Morris was second with 89 points, Northwestern College was third with 48 points, and North Central University was fourth with 24 points. The Saints won 13 of the 16 events and did not compete in one of the three that it didn't win.

#Maggie Bair# was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet after winning in four different events on the day. In the 55-meter hurdles, she won with a UMAC meet record time of 8.50 seconds. In her first collegiate 55-meter dash she broke the program record in the prelims with a time of 7.40 seconds and then won in the finals with a time of 7.46 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Bair won with a time of 27.82 seconds. St. Scholastica took the top nine spots in that event. Bair then won the pole vault, clearing a height of 9'-6.5” (2.91m).

#Alec Seeley# took home Female Field Athlete of the Meet for the second consecutive year after winning both the weight throw and shot put. Seeley's winning toss in the weight throw was 48'-6” (14.80m). Seeley then broke the UMAC meet record in the shot put with a distance of 39'-3.25” (11.97m).

#Tracy Perish# took first place in both the 400-meter dash and the long jump. Perish won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.09 seconds. Her winning distance in the long jump broke her own school record with a distance of 17'-3.25” (5.26m).

#Melissa Kempenich# won the 5,000-meter run, breaking the previous meet record with a time of 18:58.47 seconds. In her first meet of the season, #Katie Kimm# won the high jump, clearing a height of 4'-11” (1.50m). #Rachel Miller# placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 36'-2” (11.02m), breaking the previous meet record.

The 4x200-meter relay team of #Mariah Berg#, #Katie Walrath#, #Christa Diedrich#, and #Kaylee Gombold# won with a time of 1:52.86 seconds, breaking the previous meet record. The 4x400-meter relay team of #Katherine Mueller#, #Hallie Miller#, #Shelbie Johnson#, and #Nikki Hughes# won with a time of 4:13.84 seconds.

CSS Head coach #Kirk Nauman# was also named the UMAC Female Coach of the Year.

The Saints will send some members to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointer Qualifier next Saturday for their last attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
