Early Goal Enough as Pointers Hold On Against Saints

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team ran into an outstanding goaltending performance from Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rival Wis.-Stevens Point as it fell by a 1-0 final at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday night.

The Saints fall to 7-12-1 on the season, including a 5-9-1 mark in the NCHA.  The Pointers improve to 12-6-1 (8-6-1 NCHA).

The Pointers scored the lone goal of the game just 2:31 into the first period on the powerplay. Dana Carothers netted her fifth of the year, the eventual game-winner, with assists by Erin Marvin and Samantha Scheving.

The Saints had chances, and plenty of them, taking 37 shots against Pointer goaltender Staci Pomering. #Monika Waidacher# led the way for St. Scholastica with five shots on the night.

For CSS, #Rachel Borchardt# stopped 33 of 34 Stevens Point shots in taking the hard-luck loss.

Both teams finished with six penalties for 12 minutes on the night, with Stevens Point making good on one of six powerplay opportunities while the Saints were scoreless in six of their own.
