Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team outscored Presentation College 13-1 over the final seven minutes to win by a final margin of 59-50 on Friday evening at Reif Gymnasium.
The Saints went on an early 9-0 run to take a six-point lead. Presentation responded with a 10-0 run to take a 19-15 lead with seven minutes to go. Later in the half, Presentation used a 7-0 run and after a 3-pointer by Hannah Phillips in the closing seconds Presentation went into halftime with a 33-27 advantage.
St. Scholastica shot 37-percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and committed 12 turnovers. Presentation shot 39-percent and scored 16 points off of CSS turnovers.
Presentation extended its lead to eight with the first points of the second half, but CSS quickly got back in the game with a 7-0 run with
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) registering five of those points.
Presentation held on to the lead until the seven minute mark as
Taylor Fellbaum (Minong, Wis./Northwood HS) ripped of eight straight points for the Saints as CSS went up by a score of 50-49 with 5:28 to go.
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) would score the next five points for CSS as the Saints never looked back in a 59-50 triumph over Presentation.
St. Scholastica shot 50-percent in the second half to finish at 43-precent for the game. The Saints out-rebounded Presentation 45-35 and had a 13-5 edge in second-chance points. CSS also controlled the paint with a 32-14 scoring advantage. Presentation shot only 20-percent in the second half, to finish at 31-percent for the game.
Fellbaum led the Saints with 14 points, 10 of which coming in the second half. Heisler added 13 points.
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) controlled the glass with a game-high 14 rebounds. Abbie Geraci had 19 points to pace Presentation (2-13, 1-5 UMAC).
The Saints (6-11, 4-2 UMAC) will host the University of Minnesota, Morris tomorrow afternoon at Reif Gymnasium. It will also be Alumni Day with the women's alumni game taking place at 11 a.m. The Saints and Cougars will tip-off at 3 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on csssaints.com.
