ST. PAUL – St. Scholastica senior Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) capped off his career by being named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year; it was announced on Thursday. Head coach Wells Patten was also named the UMAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Engelstad becomes the first Saint to be named the conference's player of the year since Dillon Sterle received the honor in 2009. Engelstad was an All-UMAC selection all four years and went undefeated in singles play at the conference tournament in his career and brought home a total of 3 singles titles, 3 doubles titles and three team titles.

Engelstad had the greatest career in St. Scholastica men's tennis history, recording a program record 61 singles wins and 54 doubles victories. His 115 combined wins beat the previous record by 11 victories. He recorded at least 12 wins in each of his four seasons, including a 15-10 record this season. In conference play he went 9-1 at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles.

Other seniors joining Engelstad on the All-UMAC team include Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), both of whom are four-time All-UMAC selections.

Hilpert also finished with a stellar career at CSS, holding the record for the most doubles wins in a season (20, 2011) and most career singles wins at the No. 4 flight (18). He finished with the third-most singles wins overall (52) and the fourth-most combined wins (91) in program history. Hilpert went undefeated in singles play during the conference season with a 10-0 mark. He was 5-1 in UMAC doubles action.

Lindberg, who was slowed by injury for much of the latter part of the season, finished 4-1 in league singles play and 2-0 in doubles action. Lindberg was a staple in the Saints' lineup all four years, accumulating 33 singles and 16 doubles victories.

Junior Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) earns All-UMAC accolades for the first time in his career. Dean went 3-0 in UMAC singles play and 8-2 overall. In doubles, he was 7-1 in conference action and 16-4 overall. The 16 wins tied Engelstad for a team-high.

Freshman James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) is the final Saint to earn All-UMAC laurels. Mack was 7-0 in conference singles action and 16-5 overall. The 16 wins matched Hilpert for a team-high on the year. Mack was 5-1 in conference doubles matches and 14-8 overall. Senior Nick Lind (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) was the St. Scholastica recipient of the UMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Patten is named the UMAC Men's Coach of the Year for the 11th time and the fourth straight year. He guided the Saints to a program record 18 team wins and 98 singles victories this season. The Saints also captured their 16th straight UMAC regular season title and 12th conference tournament championship.
