Women’s Tennis Takes down Conference Rival Northwestern

FRIDLEY, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week, the St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated Northwestern College 6-3 on Thursday at the Lifetime Fitness Tennis Center.

The men's and women's tennis matchup between the league's top teams was featured as this week's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week.

The Saints would take two of the three doubles matches. The No. 2 team of Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) and Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) won 8-6. The No. 3 duo of Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) also won 8-4.

In singles action, Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) rallied at the No. 1 spot in a third set super-breaker for her eighth straight victory by scores of 2-6, 6-2, (10-5). Zwiener also won at the No. 2 spot 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) blanked her opponent at No. 6 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Then with the dual match already in hand, Lawrence won her match at the No. 4 spot 8-3 for her seventh straight singles win.

The loss for the Eagles drops them to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Saints (10-4, 2-0 UMAC) will be in action next Friday when they split the squad up with one team facing the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a non-conference match in Eau Claire and the other Bethany Lutheran College in UMAC play in Mankato.
