LA CROSSE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – After five events, St. Scholastica's Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) is eighth in the decathlon with 3,473 points at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Roger Harring Stadium.

The freshman opened up the NCAA Championships by posting a personal-best time of 11.25 in the 100m dash to finish fifth in the event. In his second event, the long jump, Wagner set another personal record with a mark of 21'4.25” (6.51m) to finish tied for eighth.

Wagner would finish fifth again in the shot put with a toss of 38'6.75” (11.75m). In the high jump, he would tie for 12th, clearing 5'10.75” (1.80m). He finished the day with his third personal best mark, placing seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 51.44.

Wagner sits only 46 points out of fifth place in the competition. His day one scores are better than what he did last week at the Gregory Multi's when he qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Wagner will wrap up the decathlon tomorrow with the final five events beginning with the 110m hurdles at 2 p.m. Becky Huberty will also be in action in the hammer throw tomorrow at 5 p.m.
