ABCA All-Midwest Region Teams
DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica had three players named second team All-Midwest Region and another named to the third team, by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA); it was announced recently.
Senior CSS players made the second team in shortstop
Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS), outfielder
Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) and pitcher
Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS). Sophomore pitcher
Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) was named to the region's third team.
Casareto receives all-region accolades of any kind for the first time in his career. He led the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) with a .393 batting average and 39 RBIs. The two-time first team All-UMAC selection was second in the league with three home runs and 72 total bases. Defensively, he led the conference with 115 assists and 23 double plays.
Flagstad is a second team selection after being named to the first team last season. The two-time UMAC Player of the Year finished second in the conference with a .391 batting average, 36 RBIs and led the league with 20 stolen bases, .616 slugging percentage and 52 runs scored.
He finished tied for the program record with 19 career triples. He is only the fourth player in program history to have a career batting average of .400 as he finished at .401.Flagstad was also named second team All-Region by D3baseball.com and earned a spot on the Whitewater Regional All-Tournament Team.
Jensen, who was named third team all-region by the ABCA last season as a utility player, earns second team honors as a pitcher this year. Jensen was CSS's No. 1 hurler this past season. He was the starter in St. Scholastica's two wins over a second-ranked University of St. Thomas squad, including the victory over the Tommies at the NCAA Regional. Jensen also had strong outings against 12th-ranked Keystone College (Pa.) in Florida and vs. UW-La Crosse in the Metrodome.
Jensen was named first team All-Region by D3baseball.com and also received Whitewater Regional All-Tournament team laurels. The three-time first team All-UMAC selection finished fifth in the UMAC with 46 strikeouts and holds the fourth-best career earned run average in program history at 2.01.
Keuning earns ABCA Third Team accolades after being named second team All-Region by D3baseball.com last week. Keuning led the conference with a 1.19 earned run average. He had strong outings in wins over #12 Keystone, Bethany Lutheran College and UW-Whitewater at the NCAA Regional. He allowed just six earned runs in 45.1 innings pitched, including allowing more than one earned run just once in 13 appearances/seven starts.
