All-UMAC Men's Tennis Teams
ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team had five players named All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and head coach
Wells Patten was named the Coach of the Year; it was announced on Tuesday.
Freshmen
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)), juniors
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and senior
Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) were named all-conference.
Dean earns All-UMAC accolades for the second consecutive year. Dean went 7-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles in conference play. He finished with a 12-6 singles and 14-8 doubles record overall. He finished with 25 career singles wins and 39 doubles victories.
Lambrecht earns All-UMAC laurels for the first time in his career. He led the team with 19 singles wins this season and went 7-2 in doubles play. The 19 wins set a program record for wins in a season. In conference action, Lambrecht was 6-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
Combs also earns All-UMAC honors for the first time in his career. Combs went 4-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles in conference action. He recorded 12 singles and 11 doubles wins overall.
Stainer and Fontana are named all-conference in their first years in a Saints uniform. Stainer played all of his matches at the No. 1 singles and doubles spots. He went 5-1 in singles and 6-1 in doubles in league play. Fontana won his final 12 singles matches of the regular season and recorded 18 wins on the year. That number tied the previous program record for wins in a season.
Head coach
Wells Patten guided the Saints to their 17th consecutive UMAC regular season championship and second consecutive conference tournament crown. Patten is named the league's coach of the year for the fifth straight year and the 12th time overall.
Northwestern College's David Knight was named the UMAC Player of the Year.
