Mike Theismann (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) has been recognized as a NCAA Division III Preseason First Team All-American by the Beyond Sports Network; it was announced on Thursday.
Theismann, who was named a postseason All-American by BSN in 2012, is coming off a season where he was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Special Teams Player of the Year for the second straight year.
Theismann made 12 of his 13 field goal attempts in 2012, including his first 11 attempts of the season. He made the longest field goal in program history (44 yards) in the NCAA Division III playoff game at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He also led the league by making 95 percent of his extra point tries. He finished fourth in the league overall with 71 points last season.
For his career, Theismann is 16-for-17 on field goal attempts. His lone miss came at Presentation College (S.D.) last season, but he redeemed himself, by connecting on the game-winner in overtime.
Theismann and the Saints open their season on Saturday, September 7th in Spokane, Wash. against Whitworth University. CSS will open preseason camp on Sunday, August 18th.
