Lambrecht Named Third Team Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica's Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Third team; it was announced on Tuesday.

Lambrecht, a junior men's tennis player, becomes the fifth CSS athlete to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors this year. Football players Alec French (1st) and Cory Gebhard (1st), women's soccer's Andrea Beatt (3rd) and men's basketball's Brett Tester (1st) have all earned the distinction this year. Entering 2012-13, the Saints only had three Capital One Academic All-Americans.

Lambrecht is a Biology major and carries a 3.98 grade-point-average. The Stacy, Minn. native earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career this past season. He led the team with a program record 19 singles wins and went 7-2 in doubles play.

Lambrecht won his final seven matches of the 2013 season and lost just three matches against NCAA Division III competition this spring. He becomes the first CSS men's tennis player to earn Capital One Academic All-American laurels.

The at-large selections consists of the sports of tennis, ice hockey, golf, wrestling, lacrosse, skiing, swimming, gymnastics, fencing, rifle, water polo and men's volleyball.

The CoSIDA/Capital One Academic Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
