Notables-Russert competed Friday night in her first Pentathlon-The Saints had 14 competitors place first or second
BEMIDJI, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's track & field team won seven events Saturday at the Super 8 Open, hosted by Bemidji State University.
Events started Friday night for
Hannah Russert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS ) in the pentathlon. In her first attempt at the pentathlon, Russert finished with 2,574 points and finished second overall.
In the running events on Saturday, freshmen
Mady Urman (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) and
Breanna Shofner (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) swept the top two spots in the 60m dash with Urman posting a winning time of 8.31. Shofner's time was 8.38.
It was a trio sweeping the top three spots in the mile run. Freshman
Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) won with a time of 5:31.93.
Andrea Mogren (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and
Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) placed second and third, respectively.
The 4x400m relay team of
Maggie Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS),
Amy Campbell (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS), Mogren and
Brianna Buske (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer HS) won with a time of 4:15.34. Buske also took the top honors in the 800m run with a time of 2:24.03.
Freshmen
Sammi Argir (Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing HS),
Lizzie Fudge (Perham, Minn./Perham HS) and
Hailey Fentem (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) had runner-up finishes of their own. Argir was second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.88. Fudge was runner-up in the 3000m run, finishing in 11:50.18. Fentem was second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.88.
In field events,
Nicole Christianson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won the high jump and triple jump. She cleared 5'4.5" (1.64m) to take the high jump and had a mark of 36'3.5" (11.06m) to win the triple jump.
Danielle Dickson (Roseville, Minn./Totino Grace HS/Roseville HS) was the final winner on the day, taking first in the long jump with a leap of 17'0" (5.18m).
The Saints will be at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Open next Saturday in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Events are scheduled to begin at noon.
