OSWEGO, N.Y. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored two first period goals, but had to rally late and eventually fell in overtime Friday to Nazareth College (N.Y.) 4-3 in overtime at the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Classic, hosted by Oswego State University.
The Saints scored back-to-back goals, four minutes apart in the first period as
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) netted the first and
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) had the second to give the Saints a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
Ryan Cooper (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary (Dauphin-MJHL) ) and
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) had the assists on the first goal, while
Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) and
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) had the assists on the second tally.
The Golden Flyers (5-4-3) got on the board with a power-play goal midway through the second period to make it 2-1 CSS after two periods.
Another Nazareth power-play goal less than three minutes into the third period tied the game at 2-2. The Golden Flyers then took the lead midway through the period on a Don Olivieri goal to make it 3-2.
It remained 3-2 until Phee recorded his second goal of the contest with less than seven minutes to go in regulation to tie it at 3-3. Nowakowski and Cooper had the assists.
The game went into overtime and less than two minutes into the five minute extra session, John Power scored for Nazareth to give the Golden Flyers the 4-3 victory.
Nazareth out-shot the Saints 36-34 and was 2-for-7 with the man-advantage. The Saints were 0-for-4 on the power-play.
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 32 saves in the loss, while Brandon Lane had 31 saves in the win for the Golden Eagles.
The Saints (7-5-0) will face the loser of Tufts University (Mass.) and Oswego State at tomorrow at 4 p.m. (ET).
