Women's Cross Country Runs Away with UMAC Championship

BUFFALO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After a one-year hiatus at the top, the St. Scholastica women's cross country team took home the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship for the 14th time in 15 years on Saturday afternoon behind a dominant team showing at Buffalo Heights Golf Course.
 
Meet Results.
Seven runners finished in the top 19 for the Saints, including three runners place in the top five. Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) placed first in the meet for the Saints with a time of 23:45.3, 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from UW-Superior. She becomes the first Saint to win the UMAC Championship individually since Chelsea Johnson did it in 2013.
 
Andrea Mogren (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) finished third and fifth, respectively, with times of 24:05.5 and 24:36.2 to round out the first three Saints runners.
 
Anna Nelson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and Kali Erickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) rounded out the scoring for the Saints with Nelson coming in 11th with a time of 25:43.8 and Erickson coming in 14th with a time of 26:09.9. Hovland, Mogren, Johnson, Nelson and Erickson all earn All-UMAC accolades for placing in the top 15 overall. Mogren earns all-conference accolades for the fourth straight year, while Johnson earn them for the third straight year. Hovland, Nelson, and Erickson earn them for the first time in their careers
 
Rounding out the top finishers for CSS was Molly McCusker (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) and Heidi Carlson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) finishing17th and 19th, respectively. McCusker finished with a time of 26:43.0 and Carlson finished just 0.1 seconds ahead of the 20th place finisher with a final time of 26:50.7.
 
Preseason conference favorite and defending champion University of Minnesota Morris came in second with 63 points. University of Wisconsin-Superior finished third, narrowly edging out Bethany Lutheran College 86-87.
