NCAA ReleaseINDIANAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica junior Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) and senior Brianna Buske (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer HS) will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in North Carolina; it was announced on Monday. Wagner, who has competed at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the decathlon the past two years, will be making his first Nationals appearance in the indoor season in the heptathlon. He will be only the second CSS male to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships
(Wendell Booth, 2009) and the first track & field member
(male/female) to compete in a multi at the Indoor Championships.
Wagner only competed once in the heptathlon this season and that was back in December at "The Opener" at St. Scholastica. He set a program record in winning the event with 4,950 points. That point is ranked eighth in NCAA Division III this season.
Since then, Wagner has set personal-best marks in the 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump, which are part of the heptathlon.
Initially, Buske narrowly missed getting into the championship field in the 400m dash. Buske was only four-hundredths of a second out of the final qualifying spot. However, due to a medical scratch, Head Coach
Kirk Nauman received a call from the NCAA late this morning and Buske is in the 400m field.
Buske has had a fantastic indoor season, breaking program records in the 300m, 400m, 600m and 800m dashes. She was named the Track Athlete of the UMAC Indoor Championships after breaking four meet records. Buske has won 17 of 19 events this season, placing third in the other two events.
The 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships will take place in Winston Salem, North Carolina at JDL Fast Track and is hosted by Roanoke College. The heptathlon is scheduled to begin at 11:20 a.m. (ET) on Friday with the 60m dash and continue at 11 a.m. (ET) on Saturday with the 60m dash. The women's 400m dash is scheduled to begin at 2:50 p.m. (ET) Friday with the prelims and the finals are scheduled for 2:35 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
