Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) broke his own program record in the decathlon, placing second with 6,538 points at the Phil Esten Challenge, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
DecathlonWagner had a solid first day on Thursday finishing in the top four of all five events. He won the shot put with a personal-best toss of 41'10" (12.75m). He was runner-up in the 100m dash with a time of 11.37. He finished the first day in first place of the 14 competitor field with 3,549 points.
On Friday, Wagner set a personal-best mark in the javelin throw at 151'9" (46.25m) to place third in that event. He placed second in the discus toss and third in the 110m hurdles. The 6,538 points are currently third-best in NCAA Division III this season.
HeptathlonSophomore
Hannah Russert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS ) competed in her first collegiate heptathlon over the last two days. On Thursday, Russert had a sixth-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.67. She also had personal-best marks in the 200m dash and high jump on the day to finish eighth after four events with 2,425 points.
On Friday, Russert ran a personal-best time in the 800m run, posting a time of 2:41.94. Russert would finish her first heptathlon with 3,923 points and in ninth place overall.
Record BreakersJeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) broke his own program record in the discus throw on Friday with a mark of 159'6" (48.61m) to finish seventh in that event.
Top FinishersPeterson was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 186'3" (56.76m).
Brittany Ludwig (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was ninth in the discus toss with a mark of 127'7" (38.89m).
Up NextThe rest of the Saints will be in action tomorrow at Sea Foam Stadium for the Hulst Invitational, hosted by Concordia University-St. Paul. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
