csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's track & field team competed at the Phil Esten Challenge, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, on both Thursday and Friday.
Decathlon
Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS),
Kenneth Jinkins (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and
Frank Cerar (Plainview, Minn./Plainview-Elgin-Millville HS) began action on Thursday with the first five events of the decathlon.
Jinkins won the 100m dash to kick things off with a time of 11.43. After finishing runner-up in the 100m dash, Wagner was second again in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 22'2.25" (6.76m). He was runner-up for a third time in the high jump, clearing 6'2" (1.88m).
Thursday wrapped up with Wagner and Jinkins finishing second and third, respectfully in the 400m dash. Wagner accumulated 3,494 points on day one, which was good enough for second, while Jinkins posted a score of 3,402 points, which was third.
On Friday, Wagner began the day by winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.28. Cerar would have a PR of 112'3" (34.21m) in the discus throw to place fourth.
After the pole vault, Wagner picked up his second win of the day in the javelin throw with a mark of 155'6" (47.40m).
When the dust settled, Wagner finished second overall for the second straight year with a total of 6,531 points. Last year at this event, he finished with 6,538 points.
In his first decathlon, Jinkins was fourth with 5,946 points. Also in his first decathlon, Cerar was eighth with 5,193 points.
Three-Peat in the Hammer
Jeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) won the hammer throw for the third straight meet on Friday with a season-best mark of 191'11" (58.51m). That ranks third-best in NCAA Division III this season
Gallagher Breaks 10k Record
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) was seventh in the 10,000m run with a program record time of 31:16.13. That breaks the previous program record by 18 seconds.

Also on Friday,
Adam Wallenta (Eagan, Minn./Farmington HS) was fourth in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:59.68.
Easton Foss (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) was 10
th in that event, finishing in 16:28.51.
Aaron Egelkraut (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was 10
th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.66.
