Women's Tennis Blanks Bethany Lutheran in Semifinals

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated Bethany Lutheran College 9-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinals on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. 

Doubles Action
No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) defeated their Viking opponents 8-0 - their 12th doubles victory in a row. In the No. 2 spot, Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) earned a 8-3 victory. No. 3 team Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) finished up the doubles competition with an 8-0 win. 

Singles Action
Solberg, playing No. 1 singles, brought home a "W" with a score of 6-1, 6-0. Scanlan (No. 2) handled her opponent with ease as well, winning 6-0, 6-1. Hauer, in the No. 3 spot, contributed to the Saints successful day with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Playing in the No. 4 spot, Rojas had to work a little harder for her victory, but came out on top 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (13-11). 

Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 5) kept her hot streak going, winning 6-0, 6-0 and earning her 12th singles victory in a row. This is her 24th win of the season, putting her only three wins shy of tying the program record for most singles wins in a season. To complete the sweep across the singles roster was Rice, who blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

The Saints will take on the University of Northwestern tomorrow for the UMAC Tournament championship. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m at the Baseline Tennis Center.
