Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) captured the championship at Saturday's season-opening Tom Barry Invitational, hosted by St. Norbert College, defeating the rest of the field by 15 seconds. The Saints as a team finished second overall.

Top Performances
Hovland, who became St. Scholastica youngest individual NCAA qualifier and won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship last season, finished a close second in this race a year ago. That would not be the case on Saturday as she bettered her time from last season by 43 seconds to win in a time of 17:51. The course record is 17:40 set in 2010.
In her first collegiate race, freshman
Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) placed fourth overall with a time of 19:12.
Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) was 14
th overall, finishing in 20:01, bettering her time from last season by 23 seconds.
Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, Wash./Liberty Bell HS) was the fourth runner to cross the finish line for the Saints in her first collegiate race. Dickinson, who has skied for the Saints, ran a time of 20:20. The final Saint to score was freshman
Elizabeth Poskie (Cotton, Minn./South Ridge HS), who came across 17
th with a time of 20:28.
Heidi Carlson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) also finished in the top 20 with a time of 20:33.
