Football Earns Eight First Team All-UMAC Selections

ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team was recognized with eight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) All-First Team selections; it was announced on Wednesday.
 
First Team All-UMAC
Of the eight First Team All-UMAC honorees, four were from the offense, three from the defense and one special teams selection.
 
Sophomore quarterback Zach Edwards (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) earns all-conference recognition for the first time in his career. He was the only non-junior/senior from St. Scholastica to be honored. Edwards tied a single-season program record with 2,608 passing yards. He had the second-most passing TDs (27) in a season in program history and had the second-best passing efficiency (161.0) in a single season. Edwards led the UMAC in all of those categories and finished the regular season ranked second in NCAA Division III in passing yards per completion (18.24).
 
Senior wide receiver Hunter Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) earns First Team accolades for the second time in his career (2015). He was a Second Team All-UMAC selection in 2016. Thompson led the conference with 12 touchdown receptions in league games and finished fourth with 685 receiving yards. He finished his career as the only Saint to record over 2,000 receiving yards (2,022) and also set program records for career touchdowns (30) and average yards per reception (23.5) in a career.
 
Junior wide receiver Aaron Olson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) is named to the First Team for the second straight season. Olson led the conference with 106.0 receiving yards per game in league play and finished second with 742 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns despite missing two games. He is the first Saint to record back-to-back seasons with at least 10 receiving touchdowns and over 700 receiving yards. He already owns the program record for touchdown receptions in a career (28) and will enter 2018 having caught a touchdown reception in 16 consecutive UMAC games.
 
Senior center Elliott Simon (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) earns All-UMAC accolades for the first time in his career. Simon started the final 21 games of his career at the center position. He anchored an offensive line that helped lead the team to the second-best total offense in the conference.
 
Senior defensive lineman Jake Zoellick (Sarona, Wis./Rice Lake HS) is a First Team All-UMAC choice for the first time in his career. Zoellick was a Second Team choice the past two seasons. Zoellick finished fourth in the conference with seven sacks in league play. The seven sacks were tied for the third-most in a single season in program history. He finished his career with 13 quarterback sacks, the fourth-most in program history. His 11 tackles for a loss led the team.
 
Junior linebacker Jonathan Senger (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) is named to the All-UMAC First Team for the second straight year. Senger, who led the team in tackles for the second consecutive season added another dimension this season in pass coverage. He tied for third in the conference with four interceptions, including one for a touchdown and also added three pass breakups.
 
Senior defense back Kenneth Jinkins (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) earned two First Team accolades, one as a defensive back and the other as a kick returner. Jinkins was a First Team All-UMAC choice in 2014 and then again in 2016. At defensive back, Jinkins finished third on the team with 67 tackles and tied for second with three sacks and also had an interception. As a kick returner, he led the league averaging 28.7 yards per kick return. With his kickoff return for a touchdown in the final game of the regular season, he became the only Saint to record two kickoff returns for touchdowns in a career. He finished with the most career kick returns yards (1,436) in program history.
 
Additionally, Jinkins earned Second Team All-UMAC accolades as a punt returner. Jinkins averaged 12.6 yards per punt return, which ranked second in the conference. He finished his career with 451 punt return yards, the most in program history.
 
Lawrence Also Named to Second Team
Senior guard Andy Lawrence (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly HS) earns All-UMAC honors for the first time as the only other Saint named to the Second Team. Lawrence started every game this season for the first time in his career.
 
Conference Awards
LeAnthony Reasnover of conference champion Eureka College (Ill) was named the UMAC's Offensive Player of the Year. His teammate Ryan Barth was named the Lineman of the Year. Javon Muhammad of MacMurray College (Ill.) was named the Defensive Player of the Year. John Hoff of the University of Minnesota Morris was named the Special Teams Player of the Year and Martin Luther College's Mark Stein was named the Coach of the Year.
