ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team shot 23 percent from the floor as it saw its season end on Monday night with a 52-39 loss at the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament first round game.

The Action
The Eagles (14-12) scored the first eight points of the game before Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) drained a 3-pointer 3:30 into the contest. The 3-point shot kept the Saints in it in the first half as Emelia Miner (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) connected on a pair of 3-pointers and then Cieluch hit another in the second quarter to give CSS an 18-17 lead with under four minutes to go before halftime.

However, the Eagles scored the final six points of the half to take a 23-18 lead into the locker room.

A Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) layup made it a two-point game with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter. However, it would be the Eagles closing the quarter strong again, scoring the final five points in the last two minutes to take a 34-25 lead into the final period.

Northwestern extended the margin to 13 in the fourth. CSS got back within eight in final minutes, but would not get any closer as the Eagles advanced with a 52-39 victory.

The Eagles move on to face top-seeded University of Wisconsin-Superior in Superior Wednesday in the UMAC Tournament semifinals.
