Thomas Named Second Team All-UMAC

ALL-UMAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS

ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica junior guard Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) was named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women's Basketball Second Team and fellow junior Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) received honorable mention laurels it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Thomas Second Team
In her first season as a Saint, Thomas led the team in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game. She also led the team in 3-point field goals made (43) and in steals (54). The 54 steals are the most since Mariah Hovick's 55 steals during the 2012-13 season.
 
Thomas was third among UMAC players, averaging 2.0 made 3-pointers per game in league play.
 
Walther Honorable Mention
Walther finished second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game. She led the team with 15 games of at least 10 points or more.
 
The 2016-17 Second Team All-UMAC choice made the second-most 3-point field goal attempts (36) on the team, was also second in steals (42), third in rebounding (3.3 per game) and third in assists (37).
 
Postseason Awards
Hailey Kontny of the University of Wisconsin-Superior was named the UMAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. Her coach, Zach Otto-Fisher, was named the UMAC Coach of the Year. Bethany Lutheran College's Abby Olson was named the league's freshman of the year.
