Coach Deadrick enters her 16th season as the head coach for the St. Scholastica women's basketball program. In her coaching career, Deadrick has coached ten NAIA All-American Scholar-Athletes.

During the 2001-02 season, Deadrick and her Saints won the UMAC postseason title and played in the NAIA National Tournament. Her 2003-04 squad finished one point shy of a repeat NAIA tournament appearance, and the 2004-05 Saints took third in the UMAC regular season and qualified for the conference's postseason tournament.

As a player, Deadrick, then Pelletier, played at St. Scholastica from 1987-1991. She was a starter on the 1988-89 NLCAA National Championship team. She also earned NLCAA All-American honors as a junior and was an NAIA All-District selection for the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons. Deadrick finished her playing career at St. Scholastica as the leader in steals (436) and was third in assists (265) and eithth in scoring (1,036 points).

Deadrick graduated from CSS in 1991 with a B.A. in English Education. She was an assistant coach for the Saints during the 1991-92 season. She went on to earn her M. A. in Physical Education/Athletic Administration from Idaho State University in 1994.

She is married to her husband, Troy, and they reside in Esko, Minn.


Janice Sayovitz, Assistant Coach

Janice Sayovitz returns to Coach Deadrick’s coaching staff this year for her 14th season with the Saints. Among her many duties, Sayovitz works with the post players where she herself played during her standout career at St. Scholastica from 1984-1988.

Starting at center for the 1987-1988 National Championship team, Sayovitz ended her playing career as the second all-time leading scorer (1,310) and all-time leading rebounder (812). Sayovitz, then Monsaas, also played local basketball during her high school years at Duluth Central.

As a registered nurse, Sayovitz has spent the past 20 years working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic.

She is married to former CSS hockey standout Steve Sayovitz, and they reside in Duluth with a 13-year-old son Braeden and 10-year-old daughter Raeanna.


Tara Croteau, Assistant Coach

Croteau enters her ninth season as an assistant coach in Deadrick’s staff. Her primary duties include the development of guards as well as scouting and recruiting for the Saints.

Like fellow coaches, Croteau also played for the Saints; her playing career was from 1996-2000. She left her mark on the Saints’ record books at second all-time in steals (347) and assists (266) and eighth in scoring (1026). She was also a two-time NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete.

Croteau graduated in 2000 from St. Scholastica with a B.A. in Accounting. She currently resides in Duluth and works as an accountant for Minnesota Power.


Brad Vieths, Assistant Coach

Vieths enters his second season as an assistant under Coach Deadrick. He joined the Saints in 2008 after serving four years as the Head Girls Basketball Coach in Cloquet, where his teams made the Section 7AAA semifinals three out of four years and were never ranked lower than fifth.

Prior to that he served as the Head Girls Coach in Floodwood. Vieths, a graduate of Pillager Public schools in 1997, attended the College of St. Scholastica from 1997-2001 where he ran cross country and graduated with dual degrees in Elementary Education, and Broad Area Social Sciences with a Secondary Education Licensure. Vieths is also finishing his M.A in Experiential Education through Minnesota State University Mankato and his C.T.E through Bemidji State University.

His duties will include working primarily with the post positions and scouting; recruiting; running camps and clinics as well as program development.

He is currently teaching Culinary Arts and Social Studies at Proctor High School.
